Pause · Reflect · Lift up

A craft-built place for the Word.

Selah is the Hebrew word that interrupts the Psalms — a pause, a breath, a moment to listen. We built an app around that posture.

Our mission

Help one million people master Scripture by 2027.

Not skim. Not bookmark. Master — read deeply, remember accurately, and live what they've learned. The Bible is the most important book ever written, and most of us have never been given the tools to actually know it.

YouVersion helps you read Scripture. Selah helps you master it. We're built for the long, slow practice of letting the Word shape you — through games that test recall, journeys that pace the path, a map that puts you on the ground, fellowships that walk it together, and memorisation that makes verses permanent.

A note from the founder

Why I built this.

I grew up in church and around the Word, but somewhere in my twenties I realised I didn't know the Bible — I knew about it. I could quote a few verses. I could navigate to the famous stories. But put a chapter in front of me and ask what comes next, who said this, what year roughly — and I'd shrug.

I tried apps. Most are reading plans with calendars. None of them treated Scripture as something to be practised — the way a musician practises scales, or an athlete drills fundamentals. So I built one that does.

Selah is small and South African and self-funded. I'm here every day, answering email myself, shipping changes weekly, and listening to what the first thirty Pioneers tell me. If you write in, I read it.

What we hold to

Three commitments.

Sacred tone

No clickbait. No gamification gimmicks that cheapen the text. No emojis. The Word deserves an interface that honours it.

Craft, not feature-bloat

Six pillars, built to depth. We'd rather make one feature beautiful than ten features adequate.

Yours to read, ours to honour

Scripture text comes from canonical translations. We never paraphrase the Word with AI, never replace it with a generated retelling.
